Upcoming changes to Eagle Scout requirements

Attached is a reminder of changes to the Eagle Scout requirements that will become effective January 1, 2014.

We want to make sure that our unit leaders, scouts and scout parents are aware of changes coming in

the Eagle Scout requirements, changes that will be effective January 1, 2014.

• The Cooking merit badge will be required for Eagle.

• The Sustainability merit badge will become an Eagle‐required option, a choice between Environmental Science or Sustainability.

**UPDATE** 1/12/2014 from Pam Miller, Impeesa District Advancement Chairman:

1. The new 2014 Eagle Scout Rank Application is required. It lists Cooking as a required merit badge, so there are 13 required badges, but the total of 21 badges remains. There are 7 numbered requirements for the rank of Eagle. Requirement 6 is the Unit Leader conference. Requirement 7 is successful completion of the Eagle Scout board of review, and the statement of ambitions and life purpose and list of honors and awards.

2. E-mail is the preferred method for receiving letters of recommendation. The address is eaglereference@aol.com. Delivery is nearly instantaneous and there's no chance that the letter can be lost. For those who prefer not to email, reference letters must be mailed to the Council Office at 3231 Atlantic Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27604. Please note, the PO box was discontinued at the end of December. The only mailing address is the street address.

3. Please let us know if your unit would benefit from a Life to Eagle seminar. The district advancement committee is available and eager to assist you in this important process.
